Discussion Questions for
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights
- The second clause of the Preamble says that “disregard and contempt for human rights have resulted in barbarous acts...” What do you think it is referring to?
- What do you understand the third clause of the Preamble to be saying?
- In the operational clause of the UDHR (following the Preamble and before the Articles), what do you understand the nations who sign it to be committing themselves to?
- If you had to pick three articles (out of the 30) as of some special interest to you, which three would you pick, and why?
- What questions come to your mind about this Declaration? What more would you like to know about it? What parts aren’t clear to you? What more would you like to learn about it?
