Assignment for week eight

Read:

Write:

Research papers:

  • Research papers are to be posted this week (in the Research Projects forum in the classroom)
  • A major assignment this week is to read and actively discuss each other's research papers.
  • Here are a few ideas for how to discuss classmates' papers:
    • tell the author what you found particularly interesting about their project
    • ask questions about what they discovered and how they discovered it
    • ask what recommendations they might have for the situation they researched
    • offer ideas you might have about the situation they researched
    • suggest resources that might be helpful in the situation they researched
    • etc

  • If you have collected personal narratives connected with the situation you studied, this is the week to post them (in the Research Projects forum in the classroom)
  • Please discuss the personal narratives that have been posted.

    One more element to this assignment coming up next week

There will be one more piece to your research project, due before the end of week nine. The assignment will be to make three or four recommendations that you think would help deal with the human rights dimensions of your topic. Here is what the assignment will be:

  1. Write out three or four recommendations that you think would help address the human rights dimensions of the topic you studied.
  2. For each recommendation say a few words about:
      • who you think should implement the recommendation;
      • why you think it would help the situation;
      • what you think the likelihood is of that recommendation actually being implemented in the not-too-distant future;
      • what you think the likelihood of success would be if that recommendation were to be implemented.

    Then you will also respond to at least one or two sets of recommendations that others have posted, and discuss at least one or two additional comments others have made.
